1910: "Wittber's Hop": a Bleriot
monoplane assembled by F.C. Custance and C.W. Wittber was flown at Bolivar (west
of Parafield). It flew forty yards at five feet before crashing. This was the
first powered, controlled flight in Australia. A memorial cairn and plaque
commemorates the event near the intersection of Victoria Drive and Port
Wakefield Rd., Parafield Gardens.
1914: the first airborne
toilet.
1925: the first airborne screened
(silent) movies.
1930: the first air hostesses.
They had to be qualified nurses.
1931: the first celebrity dies in
an air crash.
